While the rest of us wait nervously, one West Brom player has already tasted promotion this season.
Loanee striker Callum Morton helped fire Northampton Town into League One on Monday night with a goal and a man of the match display in a stunning 4-0 play-off final victory over Exeter City
The 20-year-old made it eight goals in 12 outings since January with the second in a rout in front of an empty Wembley, and if this is to be his last match for the club, he could hardly have given Northampton fans a more fitting leaving present.
The youngster has been on fire in the fourth tier, and it’s safe to say that he’s catching the eye back at The Hawthorns too.
Several Baggies fans have taken to social media to praise Morton, and it’s not hard to see why.
Since making the step into regular senior football, he has hit 0.76 goals per game from an xG of just 0.5, as per Wyscout.
As a point of reference, Hal Robson-Kanu, our most prolific striker this season, has hit 0.38 from an xG of 0.31.
Obviously, the Championship – and dare we say it, the Premier League – is a huge step up from League Two, but at the very least, Morton has proved that he deserves a higher calibre of loan deal next season.
No doubt Northampton fans will be quick to point out that they themselves are now a League One outfit, but why not really test the youngster?
Give him a shot in the second tier and see if he sinks or swims.
Nothing we have seen so far would suggest that he can’t cut it at that level, and if he flourishes, it could be massively advantageous for Albion.

He should be recalled tomorrow and thrown into the squad. That sort of energy is welcomed and causes all sorts of grief for defenders.
