There was huge relief among West Brom fans after the goals finally returned for the Baggies on Wednesday night.

A 3-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday – a game turned by the award of a penalty in the first half – has put West Brom back on course for the Premier League and kept Brentford at arm’s length.

Matheus Pereira caught the eye with two goals but West Brom fans saved their most effusive praise for Ahmed Hegazi.

It was the defender’s 100th appearance for West Brom last night and he was an absolute rock at the back in what was a solid display all round.

One fan said he’d been worried about Hegazi starting after two gruelling games but that he’d “completely forgot about how good he is”.

After so many minutes without goals, it was fantastic to see the players celebrating again but we should never underestimate how important a clean sheet is.

Hegazi was the second-best player on the pitch behind Pereira according to WhoScored.

He played a huge part in helping keep that clean sheet and fully deserves the plaudits.
