The West Brom Under-21s got off to a winning start in their opening game of this season’s EFL trophy campaign – and some fans singled out young Tyrese Dyce for praise.

The Under 21s were impressive in beating Swindon’s senior squad at the County Ground 3-2, with three excellent Baggies goals coming from Tyrese Dyce, Owen Windsor and Taylor Gardner-Hickman.

The Baggies took the lead just before the half-hour mark, as Dyce picked up the ball on the left before driving into the box and firing a low shot past the Swindon keeper.

West Brom rode their luck slightly for the remainder of the first half as Swindon had two decent chances to equalise, but after getting in good positions the home side couldn’t direct any shots on target.

The lead was doubled shortly after the start of the second half, as Windsor picked up the ball inside the box and confidently fired the Baggies into a two-goal lead.

Swindon then pulled a goal back through a header from a Tyler Smith, but the young Baggies responded with a brilliant goal of their own with, Gardner-Hickman firing a sweet volley past Matej Kovar in the Swindon net.

Just a minute after West Brom restored their two-goal lead, the hosts scored again, as Paul Caddis slotted home following a Swindon free kick.

But the Under 21s stood strong and shut out Swindon for the rest of the game, taking all three points on the road, in impressive style – even more so when you consider that Leeds Under-21s lost 7-0!

The great performance was not ignored by West Brom fans on social media, who were quick to praise their youth side and Dyce in particular.
