'God help us' - Many WBA fans react to report on player who is 'nowhere near good enough'
West Brom fans have taken to Twitter to express disdain at the prospect of their side signing Andre Gray.
The Watford striker has emerged as one of three potential targets for the Baggies, with Joseph Masi of the Express and Star suggesting that the club will sign either him, Troy Deeney, or Karlan Grant between now and the end of the domestic transfer window on October 16th.
And one thing is absolutely for certain – nobody wants it to be Gray.
In fairness, we get it.
Gray cost Watford over £18 million when he signed from Burnley in 2017, and he has given them just 16 goals in 94 appearances in return.
More pertinently, last season, when they desperately needed somebody to step up with the goals that could fire them to safety, he mustered just two strikes in 23 Premier League appearances for The Hornets.
There is nothing in that record to suggest that he is the man to keep us in the top flight.
If anything, it feels more like a case of lazy recruitment, with the club simply looking at the forwards who are still potentially available at this eleventh hour, and blindly hoping for the best.
Granted, if Gray does sign we will support him all the way, but if we’re being honest, we’d have very little faith that he could produce the goods for us.
Here are some of the best tweets from West Brom supporters:
No one's going to pay King's wages anyway so it's his own fault he's not going to get a move, no doubt he would've been the best option. Would be ok with Grant (although that's a big future fee) or Deeney but really disappointed with Gray, who's nowhere near good enough. #WBA

So it'll be Andre Gray or Troy Deeney then 👍
Both of them together couldn't score enough goals to keep Watford up last season but now one of them is going to do it for Albion?
I get that the budget is tight but this is really lazy recruitment from Dowling.
