'Big test of character' - Exclusive: Kevin Phillips predicts West Brom clash v Arsenal
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips has backed West Brom to draw against Arsenal in their Premier League clash on Saturday evening.
Super Kev has predicted that it will finish 1-1 at the Hawthorns, with Sam Allardyce tipped to get a response from his side.
The Baggies welcome Arsenal to the midlands on the back of that awful result against Leeds, whereas the Londoners have won two on the bounce.
Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, Phillips said, “It’s Arsenal, they’ve turned a slight corner and their performances have improved.
“It’s a huge game, a big test of character again, it wouldn’t surprise me if West Brom went out and got something, becuase Arsenal are cast as a big team, a big scalp – I’m going to go for a response from Big Sam’s, he’s going to get into them.
“I’m going to go for a draw like I did at Anfield, I’m going to go for a 1-1.”
It’s a huge game, and the fans will be demanding a response.
The 5-0 defeat against Leeds was the lowest point of the season so far, and Phillips himself even labelled that performance as “inexcusable.”
Arsenal and Mikel Arteta will be seeing this as a must-win game too after their up-turn in form, beating Chelsea and Brighton over Christmas.
It would be no surprise to see the Baggies come out swinging, with Allardyce already admitted he wants his side to be fearful of the opposition, as that’s when they play their best – this is a vital fixture.
