West Brom defender picks up fresh injury in FA Cup defeat v Blackpool – Allardyce

West Brom defender Lee Peltier has picked up a fresh injury knock in the FA Cup defeat against Blackpool on Saturday afternoon.

The Baggies crashed out of the competition on penalties despite playing some of their stronger players at Bloomfield Road.

Peltier was one of seven changes made against the League One side, as Allardyce named an experienced side that included the likes of Kyle Bartley and Kieran Gibbs.

Allardyce confirmed after the game, as relayed by Steve Madeley on his Twitter account, that Gibbs and Bartley got through unscathed, but the same can’t be said for Peltier.

“Allardyce said the substitutions of Bartley and Gibbs were pre-planned as they nurse injuries/manage comebacks while Peltier picked up a knock,” he wrote.

This could have been much worst.

Bartley and Gibbs were making their comebacks in this clash, so picking up another injury would have been a serious setback for the Baggies.

Peltier will be disappointed with this one.

Under Slaven Bilic, the experienced defender didn’t get a sniff, and it finally appeared as though he had got one foot through the door under Allardyce.

The 34-year-old was handed his first start against Leeds last month, and also started this one as he became a real rotation option at the Hawthorns.

Injuries haven’t been kind to the Baggies this season, and this is another name we can potentially rule out for a couple of weeks alongside the likes of Karlan Grant.
