The West Brom Under 23s were heavily beaten by Leeds United’s youth side on Monday afternoon as they couldn’t avoid repeating the mistakes of the Albion first team.
The Baggies lost 5-0 to Leeds in the Premier League earlier this season and even though there were no senior players in the U23s lineup today, the performance was scarily similar.
In form Leeds attacker Joe Gelhardt scored at hattrick as goals from Crysencio Summerville and Sam Greenwood completed the 5-0 rout.

The outstanding free-kick from Greenwood was overshadowed by the circumstances around Gelhardt’s third goal however.
Gelhardt converted a penalty after George Harmon gave away a foul and the Albion man was subsequently sent off, not that anyone seemed to notice.
There was a lot of confusion around the decision and many who attended the game didn’t know why Harmon had been sent off while others didn’t realise that Albion were down to 10 men at all.
Joe Chapman of Birmingham Live said, “3-0, Gelhardt hat trick, another pen – another that Albion are furious with. Harmon sent off. Anyone watching the stream able to detail exactly what happened?”
Joe Urquhart of Yorkshire Evening Post followed that up with, “Bit of confusion, didn’t see the red card myself on the coverage but it says there has been one – a second yellow card for Harmon, supposedly. Replay was running at the time.”
It is still unclear why Harmon was given an early bath but his dismissal allowed Leeds to pile on the pressure and extend their lead even further.
It has not been a good few weeks for our youth sides after Albion’s under 18s were beaten 7-1 by Crystal Palace a few weeks ago.
All of our teams are struggling at the moment as the first team face an extended rest due to the international break.
Hopefully one of our sides remembers how to win before the end of the season.
In other West Brom news, Albion have agreed a deal with this young midfielder.
