West Brom boss Valerien Ismael has high hopes for Grady Diangana

West Brom head coach Valerien Ismael has high hopes for attacking midfielder Grady Diangana this season, tipping him for greatness.

The Baggies made the 23-year-old their record signing in a £20million deal last summer when he joined permanently from West Ham United.

Diangana had a woeful campaign in the Premier League, falling out of favour under Sam Allardyce.

However, he has impressed Ismael, with the Frenchman telling the Daily Telegraph: “He has huge quality, it could be a massive season for him”.

Exciting prediction

Diangana bagged eight goals and assisted six others in 30 Championship games in 2019-20 while on loan from West Ham, and was one of our best players, prompting West Brom to splash the cash on him.

He ended last season with just a goal in 20 Premier League appearances, and it was a disappointing campaign from a player many tipped to play a crucial role in keeping the club up.

We have seen the old Diangana in pre-season, and Ismael has surely been blown away.

The former Barnsley boss is not someone who shies away from the truth, and he does not sugar-coat his words either.

He has been definitely impressed with the attacker’s performances in the friendly games and on the training grounds, and we are excited to see what he can do when the new Championship campaign kicks off on Friday against Bournemouth.

Not many would be surprised if Diangana hits the ground running and show that he is a level above the Championship in our bid to earn instant promotion.

The question remains whether he can do it in the top-flight having failed to last season and while with the Hammers.

We would have to wait for that answer, though, with a return to the top-flight the only thing everyone at The Hawthorns is concentrating on for now.
