Joe Chapman: West Brom not signing Josh Maja tonight
West Brom are not interested in signing Bordeaux striker Josh Maja before tonight’s deadline, according to Birmingham Live journalist Joe Chapman.
Get French Football News reported on their official Twitter account this evening that the Baggies had been in talks over a possible last-ditch move for the 22-year-old Nigerian international.
However, a move looks dead in the water, with Chapman pouring cold water on it almost immediately as it got out.
He posted an update on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday evening.
He said: “It’s as you were – I am told nothing doing tonight, amid links with Josh Maja.
“Sorry to disappoint!”

A further explanation was given on the Birmingham Live website.
It read: “Josh Maja is a striker who has been linked with a move to the Championship this week – and most specifically to Albion – but it’s understood that there is nothing doing at the Baggies end.
“It’s as you were – nothing is happening tonight.”
The Baggies fans would have been glad to read that a striker could be on his way to The Hawthorns tonight after moves for Daryl Dike and Liam Delap never materialised.
Their excitement has been cut short, and it seems Valerien Ismael is sticking with his current options upfront.
The quartet of Callum Robinson, Karlan Grant, Grady Diangana and Matt Phillips can all lead the line for West Brom, while the out-of-favour Kenneth Zohore could still play his way back into the good books of the Frenchman if he remains at the club beyond tonight.
Ismael is confident that he has enough attacking firepower to guide the club back to the Premier League, but that could change in January when the winter transfer window opens.
Maja would have been a decent addition, though, given his encouraging loan spell at Fulham last season.
The former Sunderland hitman knows where the back of the net is, but for reasons best known to them, West Brom are not keen on a deal.
In other West Brom news, the Baggies are pushing senior player towards exit as Ismael is not a fan.
