Colin Murray makes positive West Brom suggestion despite 1-1 draw v Millwall

Colin Murray has suggested that West Brom are on the right road to promotion despite a 1-1 draw against Millwall on Saturday.

Valerien Ismael’s side were below-par at The Hawthorns as the Lions hit back after Kyle Bartley opened the scoring.

While the stalemate brought a halt to Albion’s five-game winning run in the Championship, Murray believes there are positive signs in B12.

“[They] Weren’t that good, but back to the top of the table with Fulham losing,” Murray said as EFL on Quest host [11/09/21].

“You can take your heat maps and put them where the sun don’t shine and all the modern stuff, football’s simple.

“West Brom have had more shots than any team in the league and the fewest attempts against them, so sometimes football is a bit simple.”

Getting it right at both ends

The 2020/21 campaign was a tough one for all Baggies concerned as they meekly surrendered to Premier League relegation.

There were concerns over all areas of the pitch as the gulf in quality between them and the majority of the league was laid bare.

Albion conceded 76 Premier League goals last season, eight more than their nearest rivals Southampton [68].

Furthermore, only Sheffield United [20], Fulham [27] and Burnley [33] scored fewer than their total of 35.

There has already been a noticeable difference under Ismael, though.

Only QPR [14] have scored more than Albion’s tally of 13, while they rank joint-fifth for the fewest goals conceded [six].

If the same can be said towards the latter stages of the season, Albion will stand a great chance of promotion, either through the automatic slots or via the play-offs.
