Keith Andrews stunned by Matt Phillips in West Brom loss v Swansea

West Brom crashed to a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Swansea City in the Championship on Wednesday night.

The Baggies took the lead inside one minute but threw it away in the second half with no real response to the Swans in South Wales.

Matt Phillips was the only one to get close to an equaliser, as he fired an absolute rocket at Ben Hamer from distance which was tipped onto the bar.

Keith Andrews was analysing the game live on Sky Sports last night, and was stunned by the effort on target that almost gained us a point.

“He struck it absolutely sweet, didn’t he?” he said.

“We’ve seen this from Matt Phillips throughout the years, absolutely fizzing it – it sits up beautiful. It takes a little bounce and he catches it as flush as you’re going too.

“I’m not really sure how much Hamer knew about that.”

When the highlight of the game after our first goal was an effort on target from 30 yards, that’s when you know it was one to forget.

Valerien Ismael was left fuming with some of the play by his squad, but his lack of ability to change things when the Baggies were getting battered came back to haunt him in the end.

Phillips played a big role in the opening goal and almost got one of his own with this effort, but the front three simply need more service.

If that doesn’t happen, they will be feeding on scraps in certain games and the long ball won’t help that if the defence aren’t building possession effectively.

This was an unbelievable effort, but we need to be talking about better things such as big wins after tough games such as this one – hopefully things change this weekend.
