West Brom want to sign Uche Ikpeazu
West Brom are still looking to add to their striking options and they have identified Middlesbrough target man Uche Ikpeazu as a potential option, according to Wales Online.
The six-foot, three-inch striker has scored just twice for the Boro in the Championship this season and hasn’t even featured in Chris Wilder’s squad in their last two league fixtures, most recently against Blackburn on Monday [24 January].
The 26-year-old has endured a turbulent career so far with six loans from Watford followed by four permanent moves across England and Scotland and now he could be set for another change of scenery
They reported that Cardiff City had contacted Middlesbrough over Ikpeazu’s availability with West Brom named as one of the other Championship clubs in the race for the Ugandan.
Boro though want to see him leave permanently and are requesting a price of £750,000, which the Bluebirds don’t want to pay, instead hoping for a loan move.
A proper handful
His goalscoring record isn’t something that will knock any socks off but his main potency isn’t really in finding the back of the net.
Don’t get it wrong, he is still capable of busting the goal if given the chance but he excels more when in a physical battle with his opposite number.
Shaun Derry, his former manager at Cambridge United, was full of praise for the 26-year-old in the Scottish Sun, saying: “If you looked at Uch and guessed his attributes you wouldn’t say he was a skilful player.
“But it’s his skill and his ability with the ball that makes him the player he is. That goes unnoticed unless you actually watch him closely.
“You think you’d have to affect him physically. Well you can’t do that when you get too close to him, because he’s a man mountain.”
Ikpeazu’s ability to bully defenders has been apparent since his first loan move to Crewe Alexandra and he has worried the best central defenders in his time in the game.
Valerien Ismael would be shrewd to bring the Ugandan to the Hawthorns as someone who causes as much defensive chaos in the opposition as he does could open opportunities for others.
The current crop of Baggies attackers are among the most talented in the entire division and Ikpeazu could occupy enough defenders to give them acres of space to penetrate.
It might seem left-field having just signed Daryl Dike but no defender wants to play against the big man.
In other West Brom news, this Wales star has responded to a Tweet asking him to rejoin the Baggies.
