Chris Lepkowski raves about Zac Ashworth after West Brom 1-0 win v Reading
West Brom moved into the top half of the table with a hard-earned 1-0 victory over Reading on Thursday (April 30).
Callum Robinson found for top scorer Karlan Grant to tuck away his 16th goal of the season, 12 minutes from full-time.
Steve Bruce gave a debut to youngster Zac Ashworth who replaced Conor Townsend and Chris Lepkowski was full of praise for him.
Lepkowski wrote on Twitter: “Ashworth looks very bright. Good awareness and positive with his passes.”
The Baggies have been poor away from home this season but on this occasion, they have given the fans something to cheer about.
It was West Brom’s first away win in four matches, and it gives Bruce’s side momentum ahead of their final home game against relegated Barnsley next Saturday.
Andy Carroll was left out of the squad as speculations over his future are rife at the moment. According to BBC Sport, he is now considered very unlikely to stay at Albion next season.
The performance of the youngster has been notable. Townsend appeared to have picked up a knock and that provided the opportunity for the 19-year-old to make his senior debut.
According to West Brom Statto, the youngster made 20 passes and won two crosses in the next half.
It was a steady performance from the left-back, and it remains to be seen whether he will be given more chances in the first team.
Ideally, he should be sent on loan to another Championship club to get more games. He looks a bright prospect for the Baggies.
In other West Brom news, Albion “won’t be popular” after Andy Carroll’s exit according to Chris Lepkowski.
