Salford striker Brandon Thomas-Asante undergoing West Brom medical

Salford striker Brandon Thomas-Asante is undergoing his West Brom medical as Steve Bruce’s search for a striker edges closer, according to Alex Crook.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon wrote on his official Patreon page on Tuesday morning (30 August) that the Baggies were battling Birmingham City for the 23-year-old striker.

It’s now been revealed by talkSPORT journalist Crook (via his personal Twitter, Tuesday 30 August) that the Salford forward is now undergoing his Albion medical after opting to move to The Hawthorns.

Something different

This is certainly something different from West Brom and Bruce after the Baggies boss was seemingly set on bringing in an older striker or Premier League loanee to solve his issues upfront.

Baggies fans may be slightly underwhelmed by this signing but Thomas-Asante has proven he is well above League Two level in recent years after shining for Salford after their promotion to the Football League.

A move to League One could have been better for the 23-year-old, but it is clear the Baggies desire to land a striker has seen Bruce delve into the basement of the EFL.

West Brom

There have been plenty of success stories when it comes to showing faith in up-and-coming players and it can be a profitable route for a club to go down.

Thomas-Asante is only 23 and if he succeeds at The Hawthorns, the Baggies could well sell him on for profit in the future.

Five goals and two assists so far in 2022/23 is good going for the striker.

This is certainly a different approach from the Baggies and one that West Brom fans should get behind.
