Hal Robson-Kanu drops Ronaldo jibe as West Brom joke shared on Euro 2016 goal v Belgium
Hal Robson-Kanu has hit out at Cristiano Ronaldo after a West Brom joke was shared on Twitter in the lead-up to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
England and Wales are set to kick off their campaigns on Monday with matches against Iran and the USA respectively.
Wales enjoyed a memorable run to the Euro 2016 semi-final where they lost 2-0 to eventual winners Portugal. During their campaign, Robson-Kanu scored a wondergoal against Belgium and after a recent tweet about the strike, the former Albion forward was quick to respond.
Footy Accumulators tweeted (18 November)about Cristiano Ronaldo auditioning for a new club at the World Cup, much like the former West Brom man did in 2016 before his move to The Hawthorns.
They wrote: “Crazy to think that Cristiano Ronaldo is basically auditioning for a new club during this World Cup…
“A bit like when Robson-Kanu ended up getting a contract at West Brom after his Cruyff-turn goal against Belgium in 2016. Wonder if the Baggies have room in their squad?”
Robson Kanu replied (18 November): “Ronaldo not got that in his locker.”
Who needs Ronaldo
We are sure Baggies fans are completely content with Karlan Grant and Daryl Dike ahead of Ronaldo at the moment. Robson-Kanu isn’t wrong, the much-maligned Manchester United striker would not have that in his locker. It was a moment of magic from the 33-year-old, and the goal was likely a big reason behind Albion signing the striker.
24 goals in 154 games for Albion isn’t the best scoring record, however, the Welsh international was certainly a popular figure at The Hawthorns. It’s a real shame the striker retired when he did because, at 33, there would’ve certainly been more left in the tank.

The tournament about to kick off in Qatar will be an intriguing watch and there will undoubtedly be players who catch the eye after being unheard of before the competition. James Rodriguez was an excellent example of an emerging star during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, with the Colombian’s performances earning him a big-money move to Real Madrid.
