Daryl Dike in contention for USA call-up again after scouts visit West Brom

West Brom striker Daryl Dike is firmly in contention for a recall to the US national team after he scored twice against Middlesbrough on Saturday (25 February), according to The Athletic.

Dike, who made his West Brom return after a long injury lay-off in November, has scored five goals in 15 league games for the Baggies this season. The brace against Boro couldn’t have come at a better time, as U.S. assistant coach B.J. Callaghan, was in the stands to watch him.

The 22-year-old striker last featured for the US senior side in July 2021. The U.S. will next play away to Grenada on March 24 and El Salvador on March 27 in the CONCACAF Nations League, and Dike could be considered.

Callaghan’s visit to the UK was part of a tour of visits the US scouts have made in the last two weeks. Scouts have watched players like Christian Pulisic and Malik Tillman.

Dike could face competition from the likes of Ricardo Pepi, Josh Sargent, Jordan Pefok, Jesus Ferreira, and Brandon Vazquez to get into the senior side once again.

Form

The US national team performed below par in the World Cup in Qatar, and Dike could provide a much-needed lift to the side.

The Baggies were going through a rough patch in recent weeks, and after their defeat against Watford, they needed a positive response.

Dike, who scored his first goal in over a month, nearly got a hat-trick to his name, after he was put clean through but was denied by the Boro goalkeeper.

The US assistant boss will be very pleased with Dike’s performance who is gradually getting sharper with every game. The win against Boro keeps West Brom still in the race for the playoffs, but they need to win pick-up form once again.

Another interesting point is that Corberan will be happy to see his side managing a clean sheet. It was only their third clean sheet of the year, and young goalkeeper Josh Griffiths deserves a lot of praise for it.

In other West Brom news, Albion fans have been urged to look at the bigger picture when it comes to this first-team player.
