Carlos Corberan shouldn’t hesitate to axe Josh Griffiths at West Brom if needed – Sky Sports pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

Carlos Corberan will need to revert back to playing David Button in goals if Josh Griffiths struggles in between the sticks, according to Kevin Campbell.

Griffiths, 21, has started in goals for the last three games due to Alex Palmer being injured and Button’s poor form.

However, the England youth international struggled in games against Blackburn and Watford with a couple of mistakes leading to goals.

But in the 2-0 win over Middlesbrough at the weekend, the former Cheltenham, Lincoln and Portsmouth loanee was in fine form to keep his first clean sheet for the Baggies in his third appearance.

Campbell is happy for Corberan to continue selecting Griffiths but believes the Spaniard needs to make a speedy decision to switch back to 34-year-old Button if he needs to.

“Two or three games aren’t enough,” Campbell told West Brom News.

For a young goalkeeper, he needs to have a run of games.

If he starts struggling, I think you’d have to go back [to Button] but you have to have belief in one keeper.

Griffiths has done alright so far so I think we’re going to see a bit more of him.”

Griffiths made his senior West Brom debut against Blackburn last month.

Some fans pointed the finger at the young goalkeeper for conceding Ben Brereton Diaz’s late equaliser at The Hawthorns before he conceded three goals in a defeat away at Watford.

In other West Brom news, the fans are demanding a meeting with the owner as questions about a £5m loan refuse to go away.
