Karlan Grant doesn’t suit Carlos Corberan at West Brom after botched January transfer to Swansea – Sky Sports pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

Carlos Corberan won’t hesitate to reinstate Karlan Grant in the West Brom team if he needs to, according to Kevin Campbell.

It was Corberan who allowed Huddersfield to sell Grant, 25, to West Brom in October 2020 while the Spaniard also looked to offload the ex-Charlton striker in January too.

The Athletic’s Stuart James reported on transfer deadline day in January that Grant was set to join Swansea on loan. However, the late winter deal collapsed and grant remained with West Brom and has played just two times in the Championship since.

Campbell can understand why Corberan isn’t a fan of Grant because sometimes, certain players don’t fit in with what a manager wants to do with the side.

However, if Grant’s form does pick up and Corberan needs him to play, West Brom’s manager will use him, Campbell claims.

Speaking to West Brom News, the ex-Hawthorns striker said: “Corberan knows Grant more than I do.

Grant could be a really good player on his day but I think the manager works with the players and sometimes they just don’t fit what the manager wants to do.

Corberan works with him every day and he’s going to know.

And let me tell you this, if the opportunity came for Grant and he was to play and score goals, the manager will pick him.

That’s for sure. I don’t think it’s a bad thing but just sometimes, players don’t fit what players want.”

Grant has played 23 times in the Championship for the Baggies this season, starting 13 times.

Since Corberan replaced Steve Bruce as manager at The Hawthorns, Grant has started just two games, which were the Spaniard’s first two games in charge against Sheffield United and Blackpool.

Grant’s played just six times since that start against Blackpool, with his game-time amounting to only 69 minutes.

In other West Brom news, the fans are demanding a meeting with the owner as questions about a £5m loan refuse to go away.
