Sky Sports pundit rues West Brom failure to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Campbell believes that West Brom made a mistake by not singing Brentford striker Ivan Toney back when he was at Peterborough.
The England international went on from being the top scorer in League One to guiding Brentford to the Premier League.
He has made headlines over the last two seasons as he guided the Bees to a respectable position in the table in 2021/22 and this time around, they look set to finish in the top 10.

Former Birmingham Mail journalist Chris Lepkowski claimed on 6 March that the Baggies scouted Toney but decided against signing him.
When asked about making this decision, Campbell, a Sky Sports pundit, exclusively told West Brom News, “It might be the same things again [missing out on important players]. Hindsight is a great thing, isn’t it?
“West Brom would’ve been in for him and since then, he’s gone on his journey and he’s earned his position in the Premier League.
“Every club has the ‘We could have signed this player and we could have scouted that player’, but the problem is that you didn’t. So, the best is just to move on.”

The 27-year-old had an impressive first season in the top flight, scoring 12 goals and providing 5 assists for the London outfit.
However, this season, he’s already scored 16 and got 4 assists despite playing eight games fewer.
West Brom certainly could have made do with a goal scorer of Toney’s calibre before they ended up signing Daryl Dike.
In other West Brom news, a defender may never feature for the club again after what happened and may even leave for free.
