West Brom chief wanted by Stoke City as ‘crisis’ deepen at The Hawthorns

Stoke City are considering a move for West Brom chief Ian Pearce as Albion’s “crisis” deepens, according to the Stoke Sentinel.

The Potters are looking to fill their vacant head of recruitment position and have identified Pearce as a potential candidate (Stoke Sentinel, 5 June).

The news comes after the Baggies announced that Ron Gourlay would be stepping down from his role as chief executive.

Doubts have also emerged over the future of Carlos Corberan, with Leeds United interested Spaniard.

Not good

Bad times are certainly afoot B71. The longer the ownership remain silent, the more and more problems will arise. Why on earth would any employee stay put with the uncertainty clouding the club at present?

It will be no surprise to see Pearce move to Stoke. He’s got the chance to join an ambitious project with more assurances than his current position at The Hawthorns.

West Brom

The board have to wake up. Pearce’s departure will just be the beginning. When Leeds likely advance their pursuit of Corberan, he could be the next person to jump ship. He was the only reason West Brom were anywhere near the playoffs last season.

His man management and astute tactics saw the Baggies fly up the table. However, he cannot be expected to do the same next season. He needs backing. West Brom looked to the free-agent market last season – they will have to be more ambitious this time around.

In other West Brom news, Carlton Palmer has given his seal of approval to a “very good” Baggies transfer target.
