West Brom ‘certain’ to utilise loan market for transfers after Steve Bruce shopping spree last year
West Brom and Carlos Corberan are certain to utilise the loan market this summer and take an opposite approach to how Steve Bruce completed transfers last year, according to Birmingham Live.
The Baggies boss has already expressed his desire to look in-house to unearth some new gems due to the club’s financial restraints this summer, which has also resulted in the sale of Dara O’Shea to Burnley.
After failing to secure promotion to the Premier League, the Spaniard is set to face some difficulties in terms of recruiting players this summer, with the Daily Mail reporting that the club will be forced into a fire sale of first-team players.

“The loan market, too, is certain to be utilised after the club decided against recruiting from that particular pool during Steve Bruce’s shopping spree last year, with only Marc Albrighton in the winter borrowed from elsewhere,” Birmingham Live wrote.
“What is abundantly clear, though, is that Corberan – who cares little for the available transfer kitty – desires only a specific personality in a new recruit, something which applies to the existing personnel too.”

Limited finances
Frustratingly for Corberan, it looks like a summer of limited spending awaits, despite the remarkable turnaround he oversaw at The Hawthorns last season.
Bruce was given the big bucks to spend during his time as manager, but the club’s financial issues have placed the Spaniard in a tough position this summer, and one that could leave him extremely frustrated moving forward.
The Baggies would never have considered selling O’Shea if they weren’t in the financial mess they’re in right now, and it feels like there could be more players heading for the exit gates this summer.
Hopefully, Corberan will be able to get a couple of smart loan moves over the line and bolster his first-team squad sufficiently before the start of the new Championship campaign.
The second tier looks as tough to predict as ever following the promotion of Ipswich Town and Sheffield Wednesday and the relegation of Leeds United and Leicester City from the Premier League, so fans will be praying a few new faces can still be brought in despite the restraints.
