West Brom set to miss out on Jerry Yates as winner named in race for new transfer

West Brom transfer target Jerry Yates is set to complete a transfer to Championship side Swansea City despite interest from the Baggies as well as Leicester and Luton, according to The Sun.

Yates is set to undergo a medical at Swansea on Tuesday, after a reported £2.5million deal was struck between the clubs, despite earlier reports that Blackpool would hold out on their £3million valuation of the striker, as Yates has his heart set on a move to South Wales.

West Brom had shown an interest in Yates earlier in the transfer window, with Birmingham Live reporting their interest in bringing him to the club on 31 May. The Blackpool striker scored 14 goals in the Championship last time out, as his club were relegated to League One.

West Brom could be left behind

It is unknown how advanced West Brom’s interest in Yates was, with the Baggies not named to have made an offer despite The Sun suggesting three Championship clubs were in the running for Yates – but these are the types of cut-price deals the club should be targeting.

Singing a 14-goal Championship striker for just £2.5million is a fantastic piece of business for Swansea as they look to replace outgoing striker Joel Piroe this summer. At that price, West Brom should have been all over this deal.

The club’s financial struggles have been well-documented this summer, although managing director Mark Miles recently hinted at some incoming deals, so a cheap deal like this is the type you’d expect to be a high priority for West Brom, especially with Daryl Dike’s injury set to rule him out until December.

It remains to be seen which deals West Brom will target this summer, but they need to move soon before they get left behind by the likes of Swansea.

In other West Brom news, the club are reported to have made a loan approach for young Leeds sensation.
