Dwight Gayle and Callum Robinson respond to Matt Phillips on Instagram after West Brom development this week

Dwight Gayle and Callum Robinson have both messaged Matt Phillips on Instagram after he posted about his injury blow for West Brom.

Versatile wide man Phillips, 32, suffered a hamstring tendon injury in the 2-1 defeat to Leicester City last week (2 December), with Carlos Corberan announcing he could miss around four months of action.

Phillips took to social media to write (8 December): “‘The comeback is far greater than the setback’.”

“Thank you for your messages of support! I will be cheering the boys on with everything until I can get back out there with them!”

Former Baggies striker Gayle replied with two fist bump emojis, while another ex-teammate of Phillips, Robinson, replied: “You got this brother” with a love heart emoji and a fingers crossed emoji.

Lots of love

It says it all about Phillips and his commitment to the Albion cause that so many teammates, both past and present, have replied to his post on Instagram with messages of support and good wishes.

Gayle and Robinson obviously were among them, while Ahmed Hegazi, Conor Townsend and Alex Palmer are among those in the replies to Phillips’ post following his untimely injury setback.

Phillips may be 32 but he is a consummate professional and has been one of the Baggies’ most consistent performers this term as they aim to reach at least the play-offs in the Championship this season.

This setback is undoubtedly an untimely one and hamstring injuries at his age are obviously less than ideal, but Phillips will be determined to get back fit as soon as possible and play a part in a promotion tilt.

Let’s all hope he’s back on the pitch sooner rather than later.

In other West Brom news, Carlos Corberan has shared a Josh Maja update ahead of the Sunderland clash.
