Jeremy Sarmiento to join Ipswich within hours after West Brom transfer news

Jeremy Sarmiento is set to join Ipswich Town on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion after being recalled early from West Brom, according to Maria Jose Flores.

The Ecuadorian journalist reported via X [2 January] that the Brighton winger is set to join Championship side Ipswich on a six-month loan, having been recalled from his loan with the Baggies early due to a lack of game time.

It is understood that if the Tractor Boys complete their mission of promotion to the Premier League, Sarmiento’s temporary stay at Portman Road could be extended for another season but would return to the Amex otherwise.

Missed opportunity for Baggies

The 21-year-old has proven himself in the second tier of English football – there is no doubt about that. But of his 20 league appearances under Carlos Corberan, only seven of them have been from the start, with Brighton hoping for more minutes on the pitch for their prospective talent.

With Ipswich losing their way slightly after a groundbreaking start to the current campaign, the gap between them in the automatic promotion spots and the playoff spots has significantly decreased to just three points.

They will be hoping that Sarmiento can offer a new spark in the Ipswich attack, with goals hard to come by in recent matches. Ipswich have scored three goals in their last five matches and could benefit from a fresh winger in the squad.

Judging by the reaction to the Ecuardian’s loan deal being cut short, he will be missed at The Hawthorns having netted two goals in the Championship.

But with Jed Wallace and Grady Diangana being preferred by Corberan, Brighton seem to have lost all patience with the lack of minutes on the pitch and have chosen to recall him, reserving every right to do so.

In other West Brom news, one player in particular struggled against Swansea with a 2/10 display.
