Celtic transfer news as Mikey Johnston waits for West Brom green light
Mikey Johnston is awaiting a green light from Celtic to leave the club on loan before the January transfer deadline amid interest from West Brom, according to Football Scotland.
The Scottish football news outlet reported on 24 January that Johnston is hopeful of securing another loan deal this month after spending last season at Vitoria Guimaraes and is now awaiting permission from Brendan Rodgers.
Albion are believed to be keen on taking the Irishman on loan after Jeremy Sarmiento was recalled by Brighton, leaving Carlos Corberan’s side short of depth in their attacking line.
Looks like one to watch
With West Brom keen on a loan deal, and Johnston just waiting for permission to leave, this one looks like it could be one to watch at The Hawthorns as we enter the final week of the January transfer window.
Following a loan spell last season, Johnston has been afforded just eight appearances so far in the Scottish Premiership, with just three of those from the start, yet he has still managed to provide two goals during his limited time on the pitch.
His lack of playing time so far this season suggests Celtic could be keen on a possible exit, and with Johnston awaiting a green light from Rodgers, that could arrive sooner rather than later with West Brom ready to swoop.

During his loan spell in Portugal last time out, Johnston scored three goals and provided five assists for his team, and he would be looking to at least replicate those numbers in the second half of the Championship season, with Albion pushing for the playoffs.
