Ally Robertson cannot believe what he saw from West Brom fans after crowd trouble v Wolves
Ally Robertson admits he cannot remember an instance during his time as a West Brom fan where he saw fans behave the way they did in their recent FA Cup defeat v Wolves.
Wolves won the fourth-round tie on Sunday 28 January 2-0 thanks to goals from Pedro Neto and Matheus Cunha, but the main talking point from the fixture was the fact that the tie was postponed for 30 minutes due to crowd trouble in the second half.
The match against fierce rivals Wolves descended into chaos in the 82nd minute when an altercation broke out in the home end, with reports that an away fan had gained entry.
There was also an instance where senior West Brom defender Kyle Bartley rushed to the stands to rescue his two children after violence broke out between the two sets of supporters.
And former Albion and Wolves footballer Robertson speaking in his Express & Star column (7 February) shared his disdain at the way West Brom fans reacted.
He wrote: “Looking back to the eventful Wolves FA Cup tie, we played OK and had a couple of chances we could’ve scored from early on but we gave away some silly goals, especially the first. But at the end of the game, when all of the trouble broke out, I couldn’t believe it. It was the first time I’d ever seen the Albion fans do things like that.
“I love both clubs, I played for both, I just wanted it to be a good game and the best team on the day wins.
“But I just found it so sad to see how it ended up. So sad.
“I’ve followed Albion for most of my life, since 1968, but I’ve never seen the fans throw things at others like that and other things too. It was so disappointing and not right.
“It was two local sides, yes you are always going to have rivalry against each other, but you live the game and then whichever way it goes you have a laugh afterwards.”
Awful scenes
What we experienced during that game was awful and no player should have had to go through what Bartley did at all.
The senior West Brom man only brought his family to the game so that they could enjoy a nice day out in what was an important game for him and his team and would not have anticipated the game descending into chaos as it did.
It was a terrible scene to watch and Bartley cannot be blamed for his actions after he managed to bring his children clear of all the trouble.
The trouble was believed to have been started by a Wolves fan going over to the opposition support which means some of the blame must not be brought on the West Brom faithful who were only protecting their territory.

However, despite all that, it was awful scenes at The Hawthorns and it would have been terrible for some parents to experience, especially those who brought their kids to enjoy a rampant football derby.
But everyone associated with Albion will just want to put the day behind them for various reasons as it wasn’t a proud day in the club’s history.
