West Brom: ‘Almighty’ clear-out mooted after latest takeover news emerges at The Hawthorns

West Brom may be forced into an “almighty” clearout at the end of the season if the proposed takeover is not completed by then and they do not get promoted, according to The Athletic.

The news outlet reported on 11 February that player sales will be necessary to deal with potential trouble coming from Financial Fair Play issues at The Hawthorns.

This comes after the club are reported to be £40million in debt, with a £35million annual loss on the cards, and projections for next year not looking any better, with the coming weeks described as “critical.”

West Brom takeover is vital

Plenty of confusion has emerged surrounding the proposed takeover of West Brom in the last few days, with Silen Patel still tipped as the frontrunner, but Alex Hearn is also said to be confident of completing a deal as he will travel to China in the coming days.

News on the progress of the takeover has been expected, and it has been reported many times in the last few months that we could be just weeks away from seeing it completed, without any progress being made.

That takeover could be the difference towards any success the Baggies have in the coming years, preventing a fire-sale of players and the subsequent drop in quality that would come along with letting some of their best players leave.

Guochuan Lai was heavily criticised during his time at West Brom.

West Brom will want to avoid that situation at all costs and therefore will hope a takeover can be pushed through as soon as possible, although the situation as things stand is a difficult one.
