West Brom: Sky Sports pundit blown away by what happened in 2-0 win v Cardiff City – ‘Wonderful’
Courtney Sweetman-Kirk was thrilled live on Sky Sports after Andreas Weimann’s “wonderful” goal for West Brom in their 2-0 win over Cardiff City on Tuesday (13 February).
Carlos Corberan’s men took the lead at The Hawthorns after just 28 seconds through Mikey Johnston’s first goal for the club since joining on loan from Celtic in January.
Weimann made the points safe for the hosts by turning home Jed Wallace’s cross on 80 minutes to keep up the pressure on their play-off rivals.
Pundit Sweetman-Kirk was left wowed live on Sky Sports’ Gillette Labs Soccer Special (13 February, 9:43 pm) over the football played by the Baggies for the second goal.
She said: “It’s a really, really well-worked goal. It starts on the halfway line and it’s classic Wallace here, as soon as the ball comes near him, you know exactly what he’s gonna do, put the ball into Weimann there.
“I think if you see this goal back as well, it’s harder than it looks.
“Just before it gets to Weimann, it bounces and you see so many forwards there stretching for the ball and it goes over the bar but I love his run as well because he knows Wallace and knows exactly what he’s gonna do so he gets behind the defender, and it’s a wonderful run, wonderful cross and a wonderful goal.”
West Brom new signings gelling exceptionally well already
If there was an area of the West Brom squad that desperately needed addressing in the transfer window it was certainly the attacking department and Corberan now has a plethora of options at his disposal.
The signings of Callum Marshall, Weimann, and Johnston are exciting additions but also ones which could well get the club well over the line come the final playoff positions in May.
Not only are those new signings a boost for West Brom but they also give a kick up the backside to the players already at Corberan’s disposal to raise their levels and that’s why the Baggies are in a much stronger position than they were previously.
It’s certainly brilliant to see two of those additions score in what was a crucial win against Cardiff, especially Johnston who has already bedded in nicely within his new surroundings.
However, the second goal will have been pleasing to see for Corberan, it’s no wonder why Sweetman-Kirk lost her mind over the move as Weimann looked like he understood Wallace’s intentions with the cross for his goal and just goes to show the atmosphere Corberan is fostering at the club with his new signings making considerable impacts already.

It will certainly be intriguing to see how the Spaniard mixes and matches the options he now currently possesses given he’s never been in such a luxurious position as West Brom manager.
Judging by the Cardiff City win, Corberan’s superb man-management and coaching for his new players are working a treat.
In other West Brom news, fans will be breathing a huge sigh of relief after a managerial update at Crystal Palace as The Eagles seek a potential replacement for Roy Hodgson.
