Chris Lepkowski worried about West Brom takeover after update as ‘red flags’ emerge at The Hawthorns

Chris Lepkowski admits the potential takeover at West Brom is “concerning” with leading figures playing it out within the public which could come with “red flags.”

Writing on his personal X account (15 February), Lepkowski admitted that he welcomes the updates regarding what’s going on with the takeover at the club but is worried about the leading figures potentially leaking info to the public.

The Athletic reported on 14 February that Shilen Patel’s takeover at The Hawthorns is a step closer after Guochuan Lai agreed a deal to repay a loan he secured on shares in the club’s parent company.

It is believed that a hurdle has now been cleared by the Florida-based businessman, with the need for a change in ownership “urgent.”

It has also been reported that Guochuan Lai has agreed to repay a £2million loan secured through shares of Albion’s parent company from Alex Hearn in 2021 which has moved the bid a step closer to completion.

And Lepkowski posted: “As much as I welcome updates about our potential takeover, the notion that some of the leading figures are now playing it out in the public arena is concerning. That tends to come with red flags.

“Fingers crossed a successful resolve is forthcoming.”

Concern about West Brom takeover at The Hawthorns

The Baggies fans have understandably grown tired of Lai and all of his problems at The Hawthorns, but the good news for supporters is that his reign could end soon.

Patel said to be the preferred party for the bid and is certain to be a much better fit, with his arrival set to lift spirits in and around The Hawthorns. This development is a boost after there were talks that Patel could pull out after Lai refused to pay the loan and the amount of the debt.

However, there are several noises regarding the takeover from other figures close to the deal which is a bit concerning as Lepkowski puts and that of course could bring up some “red flags” potentially hampering one every being completed.

When huge developments such as these are in the works, it’s best these leading figures play things close to their chest rather than playing everything out in the public eye.

It’s an act that could potentially derail proceedings and force Patel to pull out of any deal with other figures trying to change the narrative.

Could it be that because the deal is so close, the noise is increasing? Maybe, but it is certainly not the right move and as Lepkwoski points out, hopefully, a successful resolution is coming because West Brom fans are the ones in need of a fresh era and direction more than most.
