West Brom: Ex-Wolves striker Chris Iwelumo slams Adam Reach for what he did v Huddersfield
West Brom star Adam Reach has been slammed by Chris Iwelumo for failing to challenge Huddersfield Town keeper Lee Nicholls during the Baggies’ clash with the Terriers.
Carlos Corberan’s side came from behind to win 4-1 at the John Smith’s Stadium on Sunday (10 March) thanks to a second-half brace from Mikey Johnston and goals from Kyle Bartley and Okay Yokuslu.
While Albion were exceptional in the second half, they were nowhere near their best in the first half and talkSPORT pundit Iwelumo was quick to criticise Reach for failing to chase an excellent pass from Alex Mowatt.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Sunday (10 March, 12:17) he said: “I’m not having Reach there. I’m not having that at all, I think that’s an excellent ball and I’d be taking the keeper.
“I’d be going for the ball and I’m making sure I’m protecting myself because the keeper is coming out to take you clean out. You get the ball first, it’s either a penalty kick or you’re getting that little flick in beyond the goal and Reach just put on the handbrake a little bit didn’t he.”
Will West Brom win promotion to the Premier League under Carlos Corberan?
Reach has had a strange season at West Brom this term, primarily operating from the bench as an understudy to Connor Townsend at left-back or a more defensive wide option in the first half of the campaign.
With Townsend currently stuck on the treatment table, the 31-year-old has had to step up in recent weeks. While he hasn’t been poor, Albion fans will have realised just how key Townsend is to Corberan’s style at The Hawthorns.

Mowatt’s ball in behind the Huddersfield backline was almost perfect as it bounced between the back four and the goalkeeper, however, Reach never appeared to be close to the ball and certainly slowed down as he approached Nicholls.
However, it wasn’t anywhere near as big an issue as the talkSPORT pundit suggested and in the grand scheme of things it didn’t have a huge impact on proceedings. Ultimately West Brom showed their quality in the second half to keep their promotion dream alive.
