West Brom: Andy Walker shares Celtic transfer admission in new Mikey Johnston verdict
Celtic supporters wouldn’t want to see Mikey Johnston return from his loan with West Brom, despite his impressive start at The Hawthorns, according to Andy Walker.
The Irish winger has impressed since joining Carlos Corberan’s side on loan in the January transfer window, scoring six goals and laying on one assist for his teammates in just six Championship starts this season.
While Sky Sports pundit Walker has been impressed by the 24-year-old’s performances, he still doesn’t think he has a future at Parkhead because of the other forward options ahead of him in Brendan Rodgers’ pecking order.
Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (13 March, 16:30) he said: “It’s so difficult for anyone who wants to try and make a name for themselves.
“You see what Mikey Johnstone is doing at West Brom, he’s gone to a great club, he’s doing really well, he’s scoring goals, he’s creating chances, but I don’t think you’d find many Celtic supporters who’d have him back.”
Will West Brom be able to sign Mikey Johnston permanently from Celtic in the summer transfer window?
When Johnston arrived at The Hawthorns in January, it wasn’t clear whether or not he had what it takes to be a success in English football, but the 24-year-old couldn’t have got off to a much better start at West Brom.
Not only has he consistently found the back of the net, but he has consistently scored wonderful goals that have given the Baggies a new dimension in the final third that they were missing in the first half of the season.

While Celtic supporters may not be keen to see the winger in green and white hoops again, every Albion fan would be desperate to secure Johnston’s services beyond the end of the season, as well other Championship clubs.
Hopefully, Corberan and the team around him at The Hawthorns will be able to find a way to secure the 24-year-old’s services permanently as he would be a real asset to West Brom both in the Championship and the Premier League.
