West Brom: Andreas Weimann speaks out after recent announcement
Andreas Weimann has hailed the role his loan move to West Brom has played in his recent international call-up and hopes his strong form for club and country can continue.
The attacker spoke of justifying Austria manager Ralph Ragnick’s faith in him by continuing to impress, having been called up after a year away from the national team.
He also expressed the difficulty of his situation at Bristol City before moving on loan to The Hawthorns but is glad to have been given a chance by Carlos Corberan.
Speaking in an interview with Kicker [22 March], Weimann shared: “Of course, you always hope. Things didn’t go so well at Bristol in the end, which also had to do with my contract situation.
“But then came the loan move to West Brom, where I got more of a chance again and was able to get noticed again. Hopefully, I can keep it up and justify my call-up.”
Andres Weimann benefiting from West Brom loan spell
Despite only having arrived at West Brom in January, it has been an eventful first couple of months for the attacker.
Controversy emerged surrounding his taunting of the Birmingham fans after scoring the winning goal in a “perfect” moment at The Hawthorns. On top of that, he hit out at a Bristol City fan for what he described as a “totally disrespectful” social media post.
More recently, though, Weimann has worked his way back into the Austria squad after a year when he was not in contention, proving the step up in his displays since arriving at The Hawthorns, impressing his manager and earning him the call.
His performances for the most part have been mixed, picking up two goals and two assists in nine league appearances so far, but the experience and impact he has had during his sort time should not be overlooked.

During a difficult period off the pitch, Weimann’s availability in January proved opportunistic for Albion, and if his commitment to keep working and impressing at West Brom is put to use, he could be important in the vital weeks of the season.
