West Brom transfer news: Andi Weimann talks up new Hawthorns contract

Andi Weimann has issued an admission over being handed a new contract at West Brom once his current deal expires.

The 32-year-old moved to the Hawthorns in the January transfer window, on loan from Bristol City.

The Austrian has made three starts and six more appearances off the bench for Carlos Corberan’s side and has bagged two goals and as many assists.

In an interview with Kicker on 25 March, he said: “I still have some important games ahead of me with West Bromwich and I have a big goal with them. There’s still a lot going on.

“I’ll be free in the summer, but now I’m fully concentrating on my job at West Bromwich, getting into the play-offs and maybe even promotion.

“If things go well, they might offer me a contract and if not, it still doesn’t look so bad that I might get a place with another team that is fighting for promotion again.

“I have no stress or pressure, I’m enjoying it now that we’re playing for something and then we’ll see what happens in the summer.”

Weimann and West Brom in line for big summer decisions

Weimann’s statement suggests a degree of uncertainty regarding his future at West Brom.

While he expresses commitment to the club’s current objectives and hints at the possibility of extending his stay, he also acknowledges the fluidity of the situation.

The 32-year-old’s focus on the team’s performance in upcoming games, particularly their push for promotion, indicates a desire to contribute positively.

However, his reference to being “free in the summer” suggests he’s open to exploring other options if an offer from the Baggies doesn’t materialise or meet his expectations.

From West Brom’s perspective, offering Weimann a new contract could be a prudent move.

As a free transfer, he represents a low-risk investment, potentially requiring less in wages compared to other signings.

Additionally, his familiarity with Corberan’s system and his demonstrated ability to contribute goals and assists during his loan spell make him a valuable asset.
