West Brom: Carlos Corberan unlikely to repeat Yann M’Vila mistake after what happened on Saturday

West Brom midfielder Yann M’Vila let Carlos Corberan down against Leicester City.

The Baggies had a big task on their hands as they travelled to the King Power Stadium without top scorer Brandon Thomas-Asante on Saturday (20 April).

And the striker’s absence was arguably felt as the visitors missed a host of big chances which allowed the Foxes to run out 2-1 winners and return to the top of the Championship.

It was yet another poor result for West Brom and after their recent run of form, supporters might be feeling slightly nervous about their play-off aspirations.

One win in six leaves the Baggies just six points clear of seventh-placed Hull City, who boast a game in hand.

However, with two matches left to play West Brom will still feel they should have enough to get over the line, with three points likely all they need now to secure a play-off position.

And to ensure they claim those three points, Corberan would be wise to avoid starting M’Vila again after the midfielder’s performance against Leicester.

Yann M’Vila disappointed for West Brom against Leicester City

Corberan handed M’Vila just his second start since he arrived at the Hawthorns in February against Leicester.

The 33-year-old has played very little football over the last year, which showed on Saturday.

While the defeat against the Foxes was by no means down to M’Vila, his anonymous performance didn’t do much to help West Brom claim a positive result.

As per Sofascore, the midfielder won just 50 per cent of his ground duels and lost his one aerial duel at the King Power Stadium.

While he did complete 90 per cent of his passes, none of these were key, and he also failed to provide an accurate long ball forward with his one attempt.

He also gave possession away four times and made two fouls during his 70 minutes on the pitch, with one of those seeing him pick up a booking.

M’Vila’s defensive work was rather average as he made just two tackles while he was dribbled past once.

While by no means a disaster, it was a performance which wouldn’t have produced a very long highlight reel, and Corberan will be looking to bring in players who are going to make more of an impact in the final two games of the season.
