Michael Hefele drops statement after West Brom exit confirmed

Michael Hefele has released a statement after his exit from the West Brom coaching staff was confirmed by the club.

Hefele worked under Carlos Corberan as a first-team assistant coach but has departed The Hawthorns to pursue a new challenge overseas.

After the club announced his exit officially [12 July], the coach took to his personal X account [13 July] to release a statement thanking the fans and players for his time at the club.

“The time has come to say goodbye to [West Brom],” he wrote.

“I want to thank the football club, the staff, the players and supporters for everything we’ve been through together.

“For me football it’s not all about just ‘the football player’ or ‘great tactics’ etc. For me, it’s more about the human behind the player/staff. It’s about strong and deep relationships. It’s about caring for each other to improve and to help everyone who needs and wants help to arrive to the highest level.

“This gave me so much fulfilling and I love to see people succeeding, progressing and being a coach.

“Lots of love and happiness to you all. Enjoy this beautiful game, it’s a privilege to live the Heffingdream.”

West Brom ready for a new era at The Hawthorns

After Shilen Patel took over the reins of the club midway through last season, the vibe around the place completely changed.

Corberan took the team into the playoffs and despite a disappointing defeat at the hands of Southampton in the semi-finals, there was a feeling that things were changing for the better.

So far this summer transfers have been made early and the club have managed to fight off interest from Leicester [Sacha Tavolieri, 4 June] and Burnley [The Athletic, 29 May] to keep the boss on board too, which means one of the best in the Championship remains at West Brom.

So for him to lose a member of his staff is a shame, but it’s clearly happened on good terms between everyone involved and the club will move forward without him now.

It’s a new era and that means things will change. Some players may move on despite the wish for them to stay [Express & Star, 22 June], but the negative aura that plagued The Hawthorns for so long is gone, and there is light at the end of the tunnel now.
