Besiktas chief makes new Okay Yokuslu admission in West Brom transfer twist
Besiktas chief Huseyin Yucel has confirmed that the club will not be signing West Brom midfielder Okay Yokuslu.
Club chairman Yucel spoke to reporters on Sunday (14 July), as relayed by Turkish journalist Yagız Sabuncuoglu on X.
Yucel stated the probability of the transfer now happening is “zero”, although he did confirm the Turkish side had shown an interest in the midfielder.
This comes following a report Besiktas and the Baggies failed to agree on a transfer fee, leading Yokuslu to consider other options, including Hull City [Ertan Suzgun, July 9].
West Brom might regret losing Okay Yokuslu if he goes
West Brom shouldn’t let go of Yokuslu without a fight, especially if it’s to a Championship rival such as Hull City. He’s been a key player for the team and will be incredibly tough to replace.
The 30-year-old midfielder has been an important part of the Baggies squad, and finding someone to take over from him won’t be easy.
On top of that, selling him to Hull would not only weaken West Brom but also make the Tigers stronger.
The Baggies are in a tricky spot, though. If they let Yokuslu go for free next summer, it would be a big blow financially.
The best move would be to either secure a new contract with the Turk or sell him to a club that’s not a direct competitor.
What we do now know, however, is that Besiktas will no longer be pursuing a transfer for the Turkey international.
In other West Brom news, a first-team player is not a part of Carlos Corberan’s plans and is likely to seal a loan exit this summer.
