Cole Deeming shares West Brom ‘dream’ verdict despite Fleetwood Town defeat
West Brom academy star Cole Deeming has reacted after being handed his senior debut against Fleetwood Town in the EFL Cup on Tuesday (13 August).
The Baggies announced [3 April] that the 17-year-old had signed his first professional contract, having come through the academy, with the deal running until 2026.
The defensive midfielder has been deputising in the under-18s but was handed the opportunity to make his “dream” debut for his boyhood club by Carlos Corberan.
Taking to X on Wednesday (14 August), Deeming wrote: “Dream come true for me and my family making my professional debut for my boyhood club.
“No better feeling than doing it for my club. Was once a three-year-old with a season ticket in the Brummy Road.”
Cole Deeming achieves West Brom dream with first-team debut
Every young footballer dreams of making their debut for the club they love and support, and Deeming is now living that dream at The Hawthorns, even if he was on the losing side.
While the Baggies crashed out in the first round of the competition, that will be of little concern to Corberan, who will be putting his full focus into the new Championship season.
His side got off to the best of starts in the league, opening the campaign with a 3-1 win over QPR at Loftus Road on Saturday 10 August, with four academy products on the bench.
Deeming was not one of them but it is clear Corberan and his staff have a lot of confidence in the 17-year-old, and fans will now be hoping to see him progress closer and closer to the first-team on a regular basis.
West Brom’s current financial situation has seen several senior squad members be sold, such as Okay Yokuslu, Conor Townsend and Brandon Thomas-Asante, which could give several youngsters their chance to shine.
In West Brom news, Carlos Corbern shared a priority on Caleb Taylor in a new Baggies verdict.
