West Brom Women confirm Ella Haughey transfer from Nottingham Forest
West Brom Women have announced the signing of defender Ella Haughey from Nottingham Forest.
The Baggies confirmed [30 August] that the 20-year-old Northern Ireland international becomes Siobhan Hodgetts-Still’s eighth signing during the summer transfer window.
Haughey has represented her nation at youth level as well as featured in the FAWNL Northern Premier Division for Forest last season, adding some excitement to the Women’s squad.
Reacting to the signing, Hodgetts-Still said: “We’re delighted to get Ella signed and over the line. Since coming in with us, she has shown an excellent attitude and commitment to be part of our squad.
“She’s an athletic, powerful left-footed player who loves to defend.”
West Brom Women sign Ella Haughey for defensive reinforcement
Forest are a hugely exciting attacking side, with a solid backline, so it is understandable to see Hodgett-Still’s excitement surrounding the new addition to her squad this summer.
With the transfer window now closed, the manager will know exactly which players she has to work with as the Baggies prepare for a new campaign.
Haughey joins the likes of Shan Turner, arriving from Wolves, and Seren Watkins and Rhianne Oakley from Cardiff City, the Baggies have now added depth in attack and defence ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
She was a rock at the back for Forest last season, making 12 appearances and keeping clean sheets in six of them, also notching two assists from defence, having signed after five years with Lisburn Rangers in Northern Ireland.
Despite having limited time to find her feet at her new, Hodgett-Still will need the new defender to form a quick bond with her teammates, likely to be thrown straight into the action this season.
Fans have every right to be excited about the signing, given her performances last term, and those displays will be on show in absolutely no time.
