Mikey Johnston sends emotional farewell message to Celtic after West Brom move

Mikey Johnston has sent an emotional farewell message to Celtic after completing a permanent move to West Brom.

The 25-year-old signed a four-year deal with the Baggies [Express and Star] with his permanent return to the Hawthorns confirmed on deadline day [30 August].

Johnston spent last season on loan in the Midlands and decided to make a permanent exit from Celtic this summer with playing time set to be limited under Brendan Rodgers.

He took the time to send a personal message to the supporters on his Instagram account [3 September].

He said: “It’s hard to say goodbye. I feel very fortunate to have been able to play for Celtic. I’ve lived my dream, playing just one minute would have been enough.

“Thank you to everyone at the club for helping me grow as a player and as a person throughout the years.

“Thank you to the fans who supported me through the good times and the bad. Looking forward to a new chapter now and going back to being a Celtic fan again. Hail hail, MJ.”

After an exceptional loan spell at West Brom last term, the move to bring Johnston back to the Hawthorns made perfect sense.

With seven goals and two assists in 20 Championship appearances, Carlos Corberan will hope the Republic of Ireland international will replicate his form heading into the new season with Premier League promotion the goal.

Corberan has started the 2024/25 campaign like a house on fire, his side are unbeaten after four matches and are predicted to run Leeds United close to the Championship title [The Opta Analyst] after the 1-0 win against Swansea City.

The Baggies now have all the firepower they need to keep pace in the race for automatic promotion and Johnston will surely prove to be an important cog in the West Brom attack alongside Josh Maja who has been on fire at the start of the season and long may it continue.
