West Brom fans baffled by Birmingham City midfield claim – ‘Bonkers’, ‘Delusion’
West Brom fans have laughed off a claim about Birmingham City’s midfield being the “finest outside the Premier League”.
Birmingham Live journalist Alex Dicken declared on his X account [24 September] that Paik Seung-ho and Tomoki Iwata are the standout midfield pairing in England below the top flight.
The linked article does however imply that Dicken was referring simply to League One big-spenders Birmingham and not other clubs – but supporters were quick to jump on the post and laugh off the supposed claims.
Alex Mowatt, Uros Racic and Jayson Molumby were among the West Brom players to get a mention in the backlash thrown at the post, following the trio’s excellent displays for Carlos Corberan’s Championship leaders.
The unbeaten Baggies head to Hillsborough next up to take on Sheffield Wednesday and seek to extend their unbeaten league start.
West Brom fans hit back at ‘finest’ Birmingham City claim
It did not take supporters long to voice their opposition online to the concept that the Blues’ central pairing outranks any other across the EFL, taking to X to air their views.
It’s not the first time this season West Midlands fans have been called in en masse to defend their clubs, following a post which sparked significant debate over the “size” of the Baggies when compared to the Blues and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Albion’s midfield options of Mowatt, Racic and Molumby ensured there was plenty to say where that particular element of competition was concerned.
