Bayern Munich tell their fans to head to famous West Brom pub before Aston Villa clash
A famous West Brom pub is set to be inundated with Bayern Munich fans after what the German giants posted on social media ahead of facing Aston Villa.
Bayern posted on their X account [1 October] a guide to Birmingham for fans attending their Champions League away match at Aston Villa on Wednesday (2 September), and singled out a pub in the shadow of The Hawthorns.
Included in a map of the city’s clubs, pubs and landmarks, as explained by ‘Paul’, president of the Bayern Munich UK fan club, was The Vine, an Albion fan pub where there is no love lost for Villa.
Paul told the club’s guide: “Nearby [The Hawthorns] I can recommend The Vine pub – especially for local beer.
“Bayern fans will love it there because it’s a West Brom fan pub – so we’ll be on the same side as them on Wednesday!”
West Brom fans can have perfect week amid Bayern Munich visit
By the time Bayern and Villa kick-off in the first Birmingham-based Champions League match since 1983, there is no doubt who Baggies fans inside the venue will be backing.
Carlos Corberan’s side have a chance to extend their lead at the top of the Championship when they face Middlesbrough on Tuesday night (1 October), which could make for a more jovial mood the following evening.
If that does prove to be the case by the time Bayern’s fans are in town, their Albion contemporaries will be in full song – particularly if their Midlands rivals are beaten by the serial Bundesliga winners.
Bayern fans who have arrived in the city early may also be keeping an eye on events at The Hawthorns 24 hours before their own clash with Villa. After all, their current manager Vincent Kompany was managing in the Championship two seasons ago.
Kompany’s Burnley side winning promotion in 2023 paved the way for the Belgian to pitch up in Munich, and if Corberan can repeat that feat this season, he could well be given the keys to West Bromwich – and indeed The Vine.
In other West Brom news, Carlos Corberan explained his decision to drop a key player against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
