Tom Cannon would welcome West Brom transfer as Stoke City run scared
West Brom will be one of the clubs Tom Cannon wants to move to if his loan spell at Stoke City is cut short in January by Leicester City, Carlton Palmer has said.
Speaking to Football League World (15 October), the ex-Albion and England midfielder said that Stoke will be increasingly worried about losing Cannon in January due a clause in his loan contract.
Parent club Leicester City are able to recall the 21-year-old from his season-long loan at the Bet365 Stadium with a view to selling him on [Sun on Sunday, 13 October], and Palmer said Cannon would be keen on a move to the Baggies.
He said: “It is worrying news for Stoke City.
“(Cannon’s) outstanding form now has got the likes of Sheffield United, West Brom, all of those looking at the situation and so, obviously, it’s a problem for Stoke City.
“If the likes of West Brom or Sheffield United, who are at the top of the league, who are looking to get promoted – of course you’re going to want to go to those clubs, to be in the Premier League next season.”
West Brom could complete statement Tom Cannon transfer
No side flew out of the Championship’s blocks quite like the Baggies this season, with Carlos Corberan’s side winning five of their opening six matches and scoring 10 goals in the process.
However, those free-wheeling, high-scoring matches have started to dwindle over recent weeks, with Albion failing to score in their last two games since an end-to-end 3-2 loss at Sheffield Wednesday.

A 1-0 loss to Middlesbrough and drab 0-0 draw with Millwall, both at The Hawthorns, have seen the goals dry up for the Baggies’ previously in-form players, namely the league’s joint-top scorer Josh Maja.
Adding Cannon – who has four goals so far this season – to an already well-stocked frontline at The Hawthorns would leave Corberan spoilt for choice in attack for the rest of the campaign.
Albion lie fourth, two points outside the automatic promotion spots as the Championship prepares to get back underway, and adding Cannon to the side could just prove to be what gets them over the line.
In other West Brom news, two Hawthorns stars could become regular starters for their country in the future after what they did.
