Siobhan Hodgetts-Still shares ‘Excellent’ West Brom Women verdict despite FAWNL Cup exit
Siobhan Hodgetts-Still believes her West Brom Women’s side deserved more after being knocked out of the FAWNL Cup on Sunday (20 October).
The Baggies bowed out of the last-16 stage of the competition, losing 1-0 to Middlesbrough in a tightly fought affair away from home.
Despite plenty of dominance in the early stages, Albion Women eventually went a goal behind after Lauren Robson capitalised on a defensive mistake in the first half.
Speaking after the game, Hodgetts-Still said: “Today was a tough battle but I think we deserved something out of the game. I wanted a reaction from last week and we saw that in the players’ performance and fight.
“Out of possession, I thought we were excellent for the majority of the game. We stuck to the game plan which gave us chances, but a mistake at the back gave them the lead.
“It’s not the result we wanted but it was a better performance and the team showed real character to put last week to bed and gave their all today.”
West Brom Women show positive signs despite FAWNL Cup exit
The Baggies must put things right against Stoke City on Sunday 27 October, especially after the embarrassing 8-0 defeat to rivals Wolves in the league.
It has been an extremely difficult season for the Albion Women so far, losing multiple matches by an excruciatingly fine margin, such as this 1-0 defeat to Boro.
However, as opposed to the 8-0 loss to Wolves, there are many positives for the Baggies to keep hold of ahead of the Stoke clash, though they must turn things around quickly.

With the likes of Shan Turner, Seren Watkins and Rhianne Oakley being added to the squad during the summer transfer window, the results have been somewhat disappointing so far.
The Stoke clash is a brilliant opportunity for the players to wrong their rights and win all three points, and if they are to take inspiration from the positive display against Middlesbrough, it is certainly possible.
