Jayson Molumby industrious as West Brom star overrun in Ireland thrashing
West Brom midfielder Jayson Molumby’s efforts were in vain as the Republic of Ireland were put to the sword by England on Sunday.
Molumby played the full 90 minutes as England ran riot in their UEFA Nations League clash at Wembley, winning 5-0 with second-half goals coming in quick succession after Liam Scales’ red card.
Yellow carded following a coming-together with Three Lions captain Harry Kane, a typically fiery display from Molumby wasn’t matched by his team-mates, with fellow Baggie Mikey Johnston left on the bench.
Jayson Molumby performance will be no surprise to West Brom
Molumby picking up a yellow card in an industrious 90-minute performance is nothing new for fans who’ve watched him at The Hawthorns this season, albeit Albion have avoided any 5-0 drubbings.
The 25-year-old did complete 85 per cent of his 26 attempted passes [FotMob], but just one of these making it into the final third, producing just 0.01 expected assists (xA), summed up Ireland’s evening.
Although he was slammed for his frequent losing of the ball, Molumby was dispossessed only twice throughout the game, failing to find a target with his solitary long ball attempt.

Molumby failed to win either of his attempted tackles, but did his best to make up for it with five further defensive actions, recovering possession five times and making three-headed clearances [FotMob].
Heavily involved in the midfield battle throughout, Molumby won 50 per cent of his duels, with one of his four on the ground resulting in the tangle with Kane which led to his booking in first-half stoppage time.
A day to forget for Molumby and Ireland alike, but Carlos Corberan’s prayers that Albion’s international stars would come through the break unscathed will at least see him return to the Hawthorns fully fit.
