West Brom have perfect chance to land Tom Cannon from Leicester after transfer news today

West Brom may finally have the chance to land long-term transfer target Tom Cannon amid the growing interest from LaLiga clubs in forward Josh Maja.

The Baggies were in the race to sign Cannon on a season-long loan from Leicester City in the summer but ultimately lost out to Stoke City for the striker.

However, West Brom could soon be able to return for the 21-year-old, as Super Deporte [19 November] reports that Celta Vigo are willing to match the £16million valuation for Josh Maja ahead of the January transfer window.

Carlos Corberan will be eager not to lose his star forward at the midway point of the campaign, but the Baggies could ease the blow by bringing Cannon to The Hawthorns.

West Brom could replace Josh Maja with Tom Cannon

Maja has been in the form of his life in the West Midlands this season; with nine Championship goals in 15 appearances, he trails Norwich City forward Borja Sainz by two goals in the goalscoring charts.

While Cannon has also been putting up impressive numbers at Stoke City, averaging just over a goal every other game with six goals in 11 outings, his situation is subject to change.

Leicester City have a clause allowing them to recall the forward from his loan spell with the Potters and sell him on for a profit in January.

Therefore, Corberan has a difficult decision to make ahead of the winter transfer window, which could have massive ramifications for the Premier League hopefuls.

The Baggies embarked on an eight-match winless run in the Championship, during which they only mustered four goals.

Despite Maja rediscovering his form with two goals as of late, including the momentum-shifting winner in the 2-1 victory against Hull City, the prospect of changing the frontline could prove too tempting.

Leicester would be willing to part ways with Cannon for a nominal £10million fee [The Sun], with West Brom reportedly eager to bolster the attacking ranks, and this would represent a £6m profit for the club should Maja depart.

Should Cannon find himself back in the East Midlands, he could set off a domino effect which could massively change the landscape in the Championship.

However, it is all contingent on whether Celta Vigo pull the trigger on their interest in Maja and whether West Brom and/or the player green light the move — only time will tell how this saga will play out.
