Robbie Earnshaw lays into West Brom after what he saw v Sunderland
West Brom appear to be suffering from a lack of confidence after recording an eighth draw in nine matches against Sunderland, Robert Earnshaw has said.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Earnshaw said his former side were “poor” in the final third after being held scoreless for the fifth time in their last nine matches as their run of stalemates continues.
Carlos Corberan’s side have found the net just six times across this nine-match unbeaten streak, winning just once against Hull City and dropping out of the Championship play-off places as a result.
In quotes reported by Express & Star (27 November), Earnshaw said: “It was poor – they had three or four bodies in the box and they kept the ball.
“There was an opportunity in the game where you can go and score, and it may have been three points.
“It maybe shows a lack of confidence where they are getting draws and trying not to lose. They are defensively solid but you have got to have something going forward.”
West Brom need to find a way back into the winners’ circle
Albion’s recent run of form can be read in several different ways, depending on how much pressure any one individual is putting on Corberan’s new-look side to push higher in the promotion race.
The more pessimistic of supporters will see their current streak as just one win in 11 thanks to the two defeats which preceded their six straight draws, while others may say they are now unbeaten in nine.

However, the fact is that the Baggies have won just once in their last nine matches and aren’t producing anywhere near enough in the final third for the likes of Josh Maja to thrive upon.
Maja remains the Championship’s second-highest scorer with 10 goals, but just three of these have come during Albion’s barren spell and he’s now been overtaken at the top by Norwich’s Borja Sainz.
With frustrations over Corberan’s safety-first approach to several matches is growing concurrently with speculation over his future, Albion fans will still see the Spaniard as the right man to turn things around.
