Liverpool supporters have reacted negatively to the news that West Brom are interested in John Heitinga to replace Carlos Corberan.

The Spaniard departed The Hawthorns on Christmas Day after Valencia appointed the 41-year-old as their new manager in a devastating blow for the Baggies.

The Daily Mail reported on 28 December that Heitinga is a leading candidate and the bookmakers slashed the odds on the Dutch coach taking the vacancy after the news emerged.

The former Everton defender is now 2/1 to leave the Reds and move to Albion, suggesting that the appointment is likely.

West Brom interest in Heitinga concerns Reds

Liverpool supporters are very concerned about losing Heitinga, one fan commented in a post on X, saying: "Not during a title challenge WBA, call Fat Sam."

Another commented: "Doesn't sound good this ... hugely rated at the club and by Slot could be a huge blow."

Heitinga has emerged as a left-field candidate for the Albion job but is exactly the kind of young up-and-coming manager that the Baggies should hire as Corberan's replacement.

He has contacts at big clubs like Liverpool, West Ham, Everton and Ajax that could allow him to secure loan deals for the best young players and snatch out of-contract talents from their academies.

He also employs a positive possession-based attacking tactic and would put his faith in the Baggies' academy and help the club keep their best young stars by offering a path to the first-team squad as shown by his time in interim charge at Ajax.

It would be an exciting appointment although perhaps not as safe as Mark Robins or John Eustace, who have Championship experience but the Midlands clubs need to take risks to return to the Premier League.
