Lewis Dobbin makes honest West Brom exit admission after new Aston Villa twist

Lewis Dobbin has shared a very honest message with the West Brom fans after returning to Aston Villa this month.

The 22-year-old made just one Championship start during his loan spell at The Hawthorns, appearing as a substitute on 16 other occasions, with his final match coming in the EFL Cup.

With no goal contributions in any of these appearances, Villa made the decision to recall him from the Baggies and send him back out to Norwich City on loan for the rest of the campaign [Official website].

Taking to X [3 January], Dobbin wrote: “Gutted it didn’t work the way I hoped but a period to learn and grow from. Met some amazing people and fans. Good luck for the rest of the season and thank you.”

Lewis Dobbin flops at West Brom before Aston Villa return

Dobbin was clearly not the right fit at The Hawthorns, barely featuring under Carlos Corberan, so it is hardly a surprise to see him return to Villa Park now the transfer window is open.

His move during the summer raised eyebrows amongst the fanbase, with many not understanding the decision to bring him to The Hawthorns, and those concerns have now been validated.

The likes of Tom Fellows, Michael Johnston and Grady Diangana were always going to be ahead of him in the pecking order, and with Devante Cole bought to help Josh Maja, he was never going to be given a chance through the middle.

Albion will need to seek more attacking reinforcements during the January transfer window, however, if they are to secure a Championship play-off spot and win promotion to the Premier League.

After 25 matches, they have dropped down to sixth place, 10 points below the automatic promotion spots and only above Blackburn Rovers on goal difference. There have been far too many draws.

Dobbin was never going to be a game-changer for the Baggies, which made his loan signing all the more baffling, and now they must take action to replace him this month.
