Lewis Koumas transfer: New update as West Brom seek to ruin Stoke loan deal
West Brom are seeking to interrupt Lewis Koumas’ loan at Stoke City and prise him to The Hawthorns themselves, according to Darren Witcoop.
The journalist posted on X (7 January) with an update regarding Koumas, 19, who has already appeared 29 times for the Potters this campaign on loan from Liverpool.
Stoke remain assured they can keep hold of Koumas for the entire season as agreed with the Reds, but Albion may look to test their resolve [Daily Mail, 7 January].
Witcoop’s full post read: “Stoke are confident of keeping Liverpool’s Lewis Koumas for the rest of the season, who has attracted interest from fellow Championship side West Brom.
“But they face a fight to keep fellow loanee Tom Cannon and is one that could remain active all month.”
West Brom to attempt to steal Stoke loanee Koumas?
West Brom are far from shy. This has been supposedly demonstrated in their ongoing managerial search, holding an alleged interest in both Blackburn Rovers manager John Eustace and Swansea City boss Luke Williams throughout the process so far – though the latter’s agent has denied an approach.
The Baggies could now be about to ruin something productive for another Championship club, with Koumas having caught the eye following his adept performances in the second tier despite his tender years.
The teenage forward already made his senior Liverpool debut in February 2024, the same year which presented him with five full Welsh caps – following in the footsteps of his father Jason, who made 141 appearances for West Brom in the 2000s and won promotion to the Premier League at The Hawthorns.
Shilen Patel cut a visibly frustrated figure during much of the summer transfer window, during which an EFL-implemented spending restriction held his side back from replacing many experienced voids in the squad.
But it now looks as if the Baggies could aim for the jugular and are spreading their ambitions – and if it beats down a fellow Championship club or two along the way, so be it – that’s football.
