West Brom new manager: Big John Eustace update from Albion insider

John Eustace has not been one of the potential candidates interviewed for the West Brom manager’s job, according to DOOD.

The Albion news insider revealed the latest update via X (7 January), as the search intensifies to find Carlos Corberan’s permanent successor.

The post also implied Raphael Wicky – now the bookies’ favourite at 6/5 with Sky Bet – has been interviewed by the board with a view to a possible offer.

DOOD shared: “John Eustace isn’t one of the two who has been interviewed,” followed by a red cross emoji.

The source added: “Wicky Wicky,” followed by a green tick, before claiming: “Unknown so far on the second, if I get a name I’ll let you guys know.”

West Brom unlikely to appoint John Eustace

As talks progress and the West Brom manager pursuit – headed up by Andrew Nestor – advances to its final interview stage, it now looks apparent that Eustace will not be Corberan’s next in line.

It was always going to be an ambitious move given Eustace is currently in charge of Blackburn Rovers, who sit above the Baggies in the Championship table and are vying for the same target of a top six position come May.

The compensation received from Valencia for Corberan was clearly a sum the Albion board were content with reinvesting, though Wicky would require no payment of this kind having been out of coaching work since leaving Young Boys in March 2024.

Eustace, at 5/2 [Sky Bet] does however remain the second-favourite behind Wicky for the role, with Steven Schumacher next up at 4/1 and Luke Williams – previously odds-on favourite – now having significantly drifted out to 12/1.

The focus for Chris Brunt at present is gearing up the squad for a tricky FA Cup third round trip to AFC Bournemouth this Saturday (11 January).
